Greetings from the business center of our hotel in South Charleston. We have a 10:30 bus to the field today in preparation for the doubleheader. First game will begin at 2:05 PM. The Shorebirds probably won’t be able to take batting practice again because the field might be wet. The first three days they couldn’t because of the college game.
The rain started yesterday when we arrived to the park at about 4:00 PM. It persisted the entire time we were there. Even the Tulane vs. Marshall game was called in the seventh inning.
We will travel right to Hickory, NC (apparently four hours away) immediately following the back end of the doubleheader.
The rain stopped last night at around 8:00 o’clock so hopefully the field is in good shape. In my talks with the people in the press box, the field drains well. It should considering it was constructed in 2004.
It is colder today than it has been all weekend. That may affect some things on the field. Most of these players prefer warm weather for obvious reasons.
Seven inning games are always interesting. The team that sets the tone early and gets a quality start from the pitcher will win nine out of ten times.
Until next time, Go Shorebirds!
