Aaron Scott Named SAL Trainer of the Year
Salisbury, MD – This past Wednesday, August 18th, the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) announced the recipients of the 2009 Minor League Trainers of the Year Awards. The Delmarva Shorebirds are pleased to reveal that Shorebirds Athletic Trainer Aaron Scott was named the South Atlantic League Trainer of the Year.
The Delmarva Shorebirds have now had the PBATS South Atlantic League Trainer of the Year for three straight years. Former Shorebirds Athletic Trainer Patrick Wesley, who is currently the ATC in Frederick, was the recipient in 2007 and 2008.
Scott is finishing his sixth season with the Baltimore Orioles and his first as Athletic Trainer for the Delmarva Shorebirds. In 2004, he served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Shorebirds.
“It’s certainly an honor to receive the athletic trainer of the year award for the South Atlantic League,” said Scott. “Especially knowing how many outstanding athletic trainers are represented in this league.”
Scott first joined the Baltimore Orioles back in 2005, as the Florida Athletic Trainer at the Orioles minor league complex in Sarasota. Then, in 2006, he became the Athletic Trainer for the Bluefield Orioles. In 2007 and 2008, he served in the same capacity for the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
Throughout the 2009 season, Scott has worked tirelessly to ensure that each injury has been handled with the utmost care and professionalism.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with the Shorebirds this season,” said a humbled Scott. “We have a tremendous staff and a great group of players. They make it very easy to come to the park everyday and perform my job.”
Scott first honed his skills as an athletic trainer in college at the University of Northern Iowa. He then served two separate internships with Detroit Lions and was the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe.
Richie Bancells, head Athletic Trainer for the Baltimore Orioles and President of PBATS, made the announcement. Scott and the other 15 league winners are now eligible for the prestigious Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year Award, which is voted upon by the full membership of the PBATS. The winner will be announced at the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Indianapolis between December 7th and 10th.
