Stolen Base Leaders and Size

Somebody asked me a couple days ago whether Joe Mahoney is the tallest player ever to lead his team in stolen bases.  I can’t answer that but here is a look at the top 10 stolen base guys in the South Atlantic League and their height.

1) Anthony Gose – 68, Lakewood – 6’1″

2) Scott Robinson – 41, Asheville – 6’0″

2) Kevin Mattison – 41, Greensboro – 6’0″

4) Harold Garcia – 36, Lakewood – 5’11″

5) Donnie Webb – 34, Lake County – 5’11″

6) Robbie Grossman – 32, West Virginia – 6’1″

6) Abraham Almonte – 32, Charleston – 5’9″

8) Joe Mahoney – 29 - Delmarva – 6’7″

8) Xavier Avery – 29 – Delmarva – 5’11″

8) Kyle Hudson – 29 – Delmarva – 5’11″

How about the Eastern League (AA).  The stolen base leader is Quentin Berry of the Reading Phillies with 47.  He is 6’1″.  How about the International League (AAA).  Drew Stubbs of the Louisville Bats was the league leader with 46.  He was just called up to the Reds.  He is the closest thing you’ll find to Mahoney’s height.  Stubbs is 6’4″.

This should put Mahoney’s feat at 6’7″ into perspective for you.
