Boxing Fight at Perdue Stadium

Scott Abraham from WBOC Sports broke the story today.

SALISBURY, Md.- Nationally-known boxer Fernando Guerrero will be returning to the ring in his hometown of Salisbury to fight in an October title match, event organizers announced Tuesday.

Fernando will fight for the vacant NABO Middleweight Title. It will be his first opportunity at a belt.

The Wicomico County Council approved a boxing event to be held at the Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury. It will held either on Friday, Oct. 9. or Saturday, Oct. 10. The details are still being worked out.

It will be an outdoor fight and this time alcohol can be sold at the event. The stadium, which is the home of the minor league baseball team the Delmarva Shorebirds, can hold up to 8,000 people. The stadium is a much larger venue than the Wicomico County Youth & Civic Center where Guerrero has previously fought.

Guerrero will be the main event. This time the undefeated middleweight (15-0, 13KO) will be fighting for title. His opponent will be announced at a later date. There is no word yet on whether this event will be televised by any of the major boxing networks.
