Don’t Leave Early
The Shorebirds plated six runs in the ninth inning last night (Monday) against the Grasshoppers. They have already scored nine runs in the ninth innings so far this year. It was quite the half inning. Two wins away from 1,000 now!
Be cautiously optimistic at this point in the season. A lot of people want to get excited about a 4-1 start and they should. But, also realize that there are 135 more games this season. The 2009 Shorebirds also started 4-1 and finished 66-70. You just never know, especially in the minors.
Some news and notes…
Ty Kelly has nine RBIs in the last two games. Not bad for a guy that had 18 RBIs all of last season in 61 games. Kelly leads the SAL in RBIs with 10.
Steve Bumbry rides a four-game hitting streak into tonights action. He is 7-for-17 during the stretch.
Justin Dalles has recorded at least one hit in all four games that he has played in.
Breakout night for Garabez Rosa. After starting the year 1-for-12 at the plate, he went 3-4 with three RBIs.
Jake Smith picked up his second win last night. He is the first pitcher in the South Atlantic League to pick up two wins.
‘Birds lead the league with 20 doubles.

Tim Griffin of ESPN.com wrote a lengthy article on tonights starter Ryan Berry back in 2008. Although it’s a couple years old, it gives you a good sense of Berry and his potential.
