Bumbry to DL

Steve Bumbry was placed on the Disabled List on Saturday afternoon, retroactive to 8/19.  A timetable for his return is uncertain at this point.  Obviously, being so late in the year, he may not return.

A corresponding move is expected soon as the Shorebirds are now one short of the maxiumum 25-man roster.

T.J. Baxter hit his fourth first inning home run last night.  He leads the active club with eight home runs.  The Shorebirds have connected on 60 home runs this season, 11 more than the 2009 club hit.

For the second straight season, three Shorebirds players have struck out at least 100 times.  This season…Steve Bumbry (131), Mikey Planeta (105) and T.J. Baxter (102).  There is a good chance that five players will fan more than 100 times (Kieron Pope, 94 ; Garabez Rosa, 98).  In 2009…Ron Welty (120), Elvin Polanco (112) and Xavier Avery (111). The 2007 season was the last time that five players struck out more than 100 times.
