Postseason All-Stars Announced

No Shorebirds player made the 2010 SAL Postseason All-Star Team but I still thought many of you might be interested in finding out who did.

Here is the release right from the league…

St. Petersburg. Florida–Eric Krupa, President of the South Atlantic League, announced the selection of the 2010 Annual All-Star Team.  The All-Star Team was voted on by the 14 South Atlantic League Team’s Field Managers, General Managers, Sports Writers and Broadcasters for a total of 56 votes.

The Annual All-Star Team was highlighted by the selections for Most Outstanding Pitcher, Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Most Valuable Player.  James Fuller of the Savannah Sand Gnats was selected as the Most Outstanding Pitcher.  Fuller has a 8-3 record and leads the league with a 1.93 ERA in 19 games.  Jonathan Singleton, first baseman for the Lakewood BlueClaws, was chosen as the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect.  Singleton is batting .297 with 107 hits and 14 home runs in 98 games.  Lexington outfielder J.D. Martinez was selected as the Most Valuable Player.  Martinez was batting .362 in 88 games, 348 at bats, with 126 hits and 15 home runs before being promoted to Corpus Christi in the Texas League.

Mark Parent of the Lakewood BlueClaws has been selected as Manager and Marc Valdes of the Savannah Sand Gnats was chosen to be the Coach of the 2010 Annual All-Star team.  Five teams each placed two players on the Annual All-Star Team.  Representing the Asheville Tourists are Jared Clark (first base) and Eliezer Mesa (outfielder).  The Augusta GreenJackets contributed Jorge Bucardo (right-handed pitcher) and Christopher Dominguez (third base).  Destin Hood (utility outfielder) and Justin Bloxom (designated hitter) represent the Hagerstown Suns.  The Lakewood BlueClaws added Sebastian Valle (catcher) and Jonathan Villar (shortstop) while the Lexington Legends contributed Jose Altuve (second base) and J.D. Martinez (outfielder and Most Valuable Player).  The Charleston RiverDogs, Greenville Drive and Savannah Sand Gnats each had one representative on the All-Star Team.  Charleston’s Robert Lyerly (utility infielder) is joined by Greenville’s Jeremy Hazelbaker (outfielder) and Savannah’s James Fuller (left-handed pitcher and Most Outstanding Pitcher).
