Tuesday Trivia

I am going to attempt to post some Shorebirds trivia on the blog every Tuesday from here through September.

Let’s set the first trivia question up like this.  Steve Melewski, who writes for MASNSports.com, recently interviewed Manny Machado.  Steve asked Manny about his expectations for 2011 and the 18-year old said….

“My goal right now is maybe to hit over .300 with 15 bombs maybe. You know, mostly though, numbers don’t really matter to me,” he said. “If I do that, it’s great, but in this first full season I just want to get through it with good numbers and have a good season.”

With that in mind, how many players have hit at least 15 homers in a single season in Shorebirds franchise history?

Answer: 9 – Ryan Minor (24), Calvin Pickering (25), Rick Elder (16), Jason Fransz (22), Ryan Finan (17), Mark Fleisher (16), Chris Vinyard (17), Joe Nowicki (19), Brandon Tripp (19).

Not easy to do.  In fact, over the last two years, no player has hit more than 10 homers in a season.

Welcome to March everyone!
