Series Win for the ‘Birds!
The Shorebirds polished off a series win over Kannapolis last night with a 9-6 gritty victory. The Shorebirds are now in third place, 2.5 games back of the Hagerstown Suns with 25 games remaining in the first half. Some news and notes below…
*Today (Tuesday) is the first off day for the Shorebirds since May 4. They played 19 straight days.
*The Shorebirds have Hagerstown on the schedule seven more times down the stretch of the first half including the final four at Municipal Stadium.
*Jonathan Schoop recorded his first four-RBI game of his career last night against Kannapolis.
*Justin Dalles belted his fourth homer of the season and his first since April 30.
*Mikey Planeta finished with eight hits in the four-game series against Kannapolis including back-to-back three-hit nights in games three and four.
*Mike Flacco finished with ten hits, six runs scored, five doubles and five RBIs in the four-gamer against Kannapolis.
*Ryan Palsha tied a season high last night with four strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.
*Nobody has more saves in the SAL than David Walters, who nailed down his 12th last night. Sean Watson of Greensboro ranks second with nine saves.
*Adam Gaylord had seven RBIs in the four-game set against Kannapolis. Through his first 29 games before the series, he had just four RBIs. He’ll take a season high five-game hit streak into game one on Wednesday.
*Very nice defensive series for Delmarva. They only committed four error in the four games. They Shorebirds have not committed an error in three straight games. Keep in mind that the 61 errors are fourth most in the SAL.
